Prepare for a courthouse visit with the correct case information, current appearance instructions and time to get through security.
Share the information you have. Date of birth and booking number are optional. For immediate assistance, call (323) 213-3472.
Do not choose a courthouse from the arrest location alone. Check the case number, court notice or release paperwork for the assigned courthouse, department, date and time. Use the listed court contact to resolve conflicting information before traveling.
Have the person’s full name, booking or case number if known, the listed court date and any release paperwork. A bail inquiry helps organize available information; confirm the hearing requirements with the assigned court or attorney.

Use the court case number when available and check the Los Angeles Superior Court Criminal Case Summary. Confirm the hearing date, time, courthouse, and department with the assigned court or attorney before attending.
The Los Angeles Superior Court’s online defendant-name search charges a public-access fee. Its name index returns matching case numbers and filing locations; additional information is in the case-summary service. Traffic and other infractions use a separate search process.
Do not choose a courthouse only because it is near the arrest. Use the actual notice, case record, attorney, or court clerk to confirm assignment. Write down the courthouse address and department along with the hearing date.
The judge explains the charges and rights, addresses representation and a plea, and considers custody or release. A person who cannot afford counsel can have an attorney appointed. The court provides an interpreter when needed. Discuss pleas and case strategy with the defense attorney.
Keep the booking paperwork and any notice to appear. Ask the assigned clerk or attorney whether the case has been filed and how to confirm the next appearance. An unsuccessful online search is not permission to miss a date on your paperwork.
Have the full name, date of birth if known, case number, arrest date, and a copy of the notice or release paperwork. Ask for the next date, time, department, and address, then record who confirmed the information.
