Questions to ask about a payment plan

  • What is the full premium and are there any additional expenses?
  • What is due today, and what are the remaining payment dates?
  • Is collateral required, and when can it be released?
  • Who will sign, and what obligations does each person accept?
  • How do I receive copies of the agreement and payment receipts?

Payment options depend on the circumstances and the agreement. Call (323) 213-3472 to discuss your situation.

Premium and collateral are different

A premium pays for the bail bond service. Collateral, when required, secures obligations under the agreement. Review both separately and keep documentation.

Do not assume the premium will be refunded if charges are dismissed. Ask the agent to explain the applicable written terms, including any circumstances affecting refunds or collateral release.

Bail cost, payment plan and collateral questions

How much will it cost to bail someone out in East LA?

Request a written quote after the current bail amount is verified. California’s insurance regulator says premiums commonly equal 10% of the bond amount, but filed rates and permitted rebates can affect a quote. Do not treat that common rate as a promise for your case.

Can I ask about a bail payment plan?

Yes. Call our East LA office to discuss the specific booking and available arrangements. Ask for the total premium, initial payment, due dates, and any collateral or signer requirements. Approval and terms must be confirmed for the individual bond.

Will the premium be refunded if charges are dropped?

The California Department of Insurance says premiums generally are not refundable even if charges are dropped. Exceptions can apply, including certain surrender circumstances. Review the agreement and ask the agent to explain any applicable exception.

When is bail collateral released?

Collateral is separate from the premium. Its release is tied to satisfaction of the bail obligation and bond exoneration. Ask for the written collateral terms, a receipt, and the process for confirming release of the collateral or lien.

What should I ask before signing as a co-signer?

Ask what you must pay, what happens if the defendant misses court, what property is pledged, and how to obtain copies of every document. Read the obligations before agreeing; ask for clarification on any term you do not understand.
